Tracing our members

Find out about the work we're doing to make sure we have up-to-date contact information for our members and that they're receiving the right benefits.

Have you been contacted by Validentity/The Tracing Group?

The Scheme's administrator, Railpen Limited, is working with Validentity – which is a trading name of the The Tracing Group – to locate members that we've lost touch with. This is to help make sure we can continue to provide important updates about your pension and pay the benefits that members are entitled to.

The Tracing Group is an established and widely-used screening and tracing provider which traces individuals where pension scheme providers believe their current contact details may not be on file. It has delivered services to large-scale organisations such as NatWest and Santander. All of its hosting solutions are UK-based and it has robust security controls in place, underpinned by accreditations such as ISO27001. We also carried out thorough due diligence and checks with the Tracing Group.

The Pensions Regulator and the Financial Conduct Authority require Railpen to maintain accurate information for members so that we can keep you informed, updated and ultimately in receipt of the money that belongs to you.

Members told us that the old paper-based checks were hard to complete. Many people struggled to find a suitable witness. To make the process as simple as possible for members, we elected to use an online process with up to date biometric technologies. These solutions are proven to be the most secure way of verifying someone’s identity.

If you receive a letter or email from Validentity/The Tracing Group, it is genuine and not a scam. Please make sure you provide the information it asks for as we may not be able to continue paying your pension benefits in future if we cannot confirm your identity.

Even if you believe that the Scheme has your address on file correctly and it remains unchanged, please get in touch with Validentity so that it does not send you any more letters.

If you need any further information or reassurance, please get in touch with the Scheme using the details on our Get in Touch page, or visit The Tracing Group’s website. You can provide the necessary information via The Tracing Group’s website. Simply scroll down to the “Have you received a letter from us?” section and follow the ‘I have a letter’ link.
